18-19 October 25 : Shiatsu-Yoga-Osteo Thai with Paul Banester

10 Aug, 2025
Manuela Perardi
Events
Reading Time: 4 minutes

A journey through movement, connection and deep listening

This weekend we are offering a rich practice drawing from traditional Thai massage and Thai osteopathy. Come prepared to have fun and “dance” with your partner using rocking, holding, stretching, and compacting techniques.

Our guiding principle is reciprocal tension – using minimal effort to maximize the effectiveness of our touch. We’ll alternate between active yang techniques and passive yin techniques to enhance and harmonize the flow of energy in the body.

A dynamic, fluid, and deep experience – open to practitioners of all levels.

We look forward to seeing you!

Program

As shiatsu-ka, we use touch informed by hara and breath to influence and change different body systems. These inter- related systems or spheres of existence are often described succinctly as the ” physical , emotional , mental and spiritual aspects or planes of our being.

Using tsubos ( acupuncture points ) and meridian pathways we stimulate energy circulation , be that as blood and lymph flow , tissue , organ and nervous system expression or Qi movement.

Our body/mind/spirit is constantly adjusting and readjusting to all received internal and external forms of stimulus .
We have a profound responsibility to our partners to ensure their complete wellbeing during a shiatsu séance.
The project of this weekend is to explore presence , how to become present to ourselves and how to be present to our partners.

We will use different techniques taken from yoga , Sacral- cranial therapy , Thai massage and Osteo- Thai to develop our presence and to explore holding , rocking, stretching and compacting .

Come prepared to move between active yang forms of touch and passive nourishing yin forms of touch.

The teacher

Paul Banester (see him in the Ryoho Shiatsu teacher’s list) is 64 years old and is a qualified and certified yoga teacher. He has studied many different forms of bodywork and holds qualifications in Shiatsu and Thai massage. He has taken short courses in Craniosacral therapy, Osteo-Thai therapy, Ayurvedic massage, and Body-Mind Centering (BMC), which is a dance-based movement practice.

A builder and carpenter by trade, having completed an apprenticeship, he has worked all his life in construction and renovation. This has always made it a priority for him to take care of his body through yoga and shiatsu, and to be efficient in his movements while working.

He has four children—two boys and two girls—and three grandchildren. He believes in the importance of loving touch, of being able to hold others, and of being fully present with those with whom we share time, space, and love.

He has taken more than 2,000 hours of courses in various training methods for the body, mind, and spirit. His first Shiatsu school was based on Masunaga’s Zen Shiatsu, which, through the use of meridian stretches, echoes yoga and Tai Chi. He has also undertaken many different martial arts trainings, including Aikido, Shorinjikempo, and Tai Chi, each practiced for two or three years before changing due to evolving life circumstances.
